No affiliation
VIN Decoder is an independent, privately operated tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any vehicle manufacturer. "NHTSA" and related names are used only to describe the source of the data shown.
Data accuracy
Vehicle specifications and recall information are retrieved live from NHTSA's public APIs and displayed as returned. We do not independently verify, edit, or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this data. Manufacturers report data to NHTSA on their own schedule, and errors or delays on their end will appear here too.
Not a vehicle history report
A VIN decode shows the factory specification of a vehicle. It does not include accident history, title status (salvage, flood, rebuilt), odometer readings, ownership history, or service records. If you need that information, use a dedicated vehicle-history service or have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic.
Not a substitute for professional advice
Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, insurance, or mechanical advice. Decisions about buying, selling, financing, insuring, or repairing a vehicle should be made with the help of a qualified professional, not on the basis of this tool alone.
Recall matching limitation
Recall results are matched by vehicle year, make, and model — not by the individual VIN. A recall shown for your vehicle's model line does not confirm that your specific unit was manufactured within the affected production window, nor whether the remedy has already been completed. Contact a franchised dealer with your exact VIN to confirm recall status.
Use at your own discretion
You use VIN Decoder and any information it provides at your own risk. See our Terms of Use for the full limitation of liability.
